With the support of the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Oromia Water and Energy Resources Development Board (OWERDB) is seeking a consultant to oversee the implementation of the Gelechet Sarite drinking water supply project in Borona, one of 21 zones in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. Interested consultancies have until 10 July 2023 to apply.

The call for expressions of interest was launched on 21 June 2023. The Oromia Water and Energy Resources Development Board (OWERDB) wants to recruit a consultant to help implement the Gelechet Sarite drinking water supply project in the Borona zone of Oromia, one of Ethiopia’s nine regions. This includes supervising the drilling works.

Over a period of 14 months from the date of signature of the agreement, the consultant will also be responsible for supervising the construction and contract administration for phase I of the drinking water project, as well as the design review for phase II. The work will form part of Phase 1 of the Borona Resilient Water Development for Livelihood Improvement Programme (BRWDILP), which will provide water services to 24,115 people and 83,000 livestock in the woredas (districts) of Elweya, Dubluk and Yabelo in the Oromia region.

This component of the programme, which has received funding from the African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional loan window of the African Development Bank (AfDB), also includes integrated watershed management and institutional capacity building. Overall, the BRWDILP programme will benefit 62 villages and 12 small towns in the Oromia region.

“The consultant’s pre-selection criteria focus on the company’s experience, technical and managerial capacity, and years of activity. Then comes the actual selection,” says OWERDB. To reach this stage, interested consultancies are invited to submit their applications by 10 July 2023 at the latest.
