There's been a lot of news this week, not only about World Earth Day but also about the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in New York in the United States of America.

Afrik21’s main news items on World Earth Day, which will be celebrated on 22 April 2022, include the wave of drought that the Sahel has been experiencing for the past few weeks. It has even caused a number of deaths in Mali.

We also learned this week that Eritrea is the country with the highest poorly managed waste index (IMS) in the world, at 97.3%. The information comes from a new report by EA – Earth Action, based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

However, in Tanzania, the World Bank has decided to suspend its funding for the extension of Ruaha National Park.

And then, at the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, a bold plan was launched to electrify 300 million Africans by 2030. It will be co-financed by the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB).
