Several Moroccan experts committed to sustainable development wish to accompany the ecological transition in Morocco and Africa. To this end, they have decided to create a Centre of Competence in Sustainable Development (2C2D). The structure was recently inaugurated by the founders, who include experts, teacher-researchers and former senior administrative officials working to improve the living conditions of populations through sustainable initiatives.
Morocco’s 2C2D will bring together several specialists in various fields such as the fight against the effects of climate change; renewable energies; the treatment and recovery of waste and wastewater; the preservation of biodiversity; and water conservation.
The additional value of the 2C2D
The Centre of Competence in Sustainable Development will serve to strengthen the capacities of administrations and local authorities in sustainable development in Morocco and the partner countries. Africa remains the continent most threatened by global warming, as well as problems of sanitation, waste management, access to water and electricity. The institute will also promote Moroccan expertise internationally in the field of sustainable development.
The centre will also enable the country to excel on the regional and international scene. Currently, Morroco’s advances in renewable energy (wind and solar) are already recognised. According to a recent report by the Ember think tank, Morocco is ranked second in Africa in terms of integrating solar and wind energy into its electricity mix.
