Water treatment solutions provider Quest Water Solutions will deploy its ‘AQUAtap Oasis’ technology in several phases. The first phase will provide drinking water to 1.2 million people in disadvantaged communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This phase will last five years and cost $75 million.

Quest Water Solutions has installed its first drinking water kiosk in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC. Its “AQUAtap Oasis” solution purifies fresh water before consumption. The technology can also be used to desalinate brackish water or seawater. AQUAtap Oasis is powered by a solar system to alleviate the country’s water supply problems.
The aim is to provide access to drinking water for people not yet connected to the national grid. Quest Water Solutions’ technology is manufactured solely in Canada and assembled in the DRC.

After 5 years, the other components of the project will be implemented. The goal is to provide clean water to 10 million people, out of a population of nearly 87 million in the DRC. Currently, only 52% of the population has access to drinking water in the country. Yet, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the country has more than 50% of the African continent’s freshwater reserves thanks to its many lakes, the Congo River and its tributaries.
