École Polytechnique in France will host the fifth edition of the X-Africa Forum on Entrepreneurship in Africa on March 7, 2020. Several start-ups are expected, notably those offering solutions for sustainable development in Africa.

Entrepreneurship in Africa will be at the heart of a conference in France. It is the fifth edition of the X-Africa Forum to be held on March 7, 2020, at the campus of the École Polytechnique, located 18 km from the city of Paris. The event will bring together at least 20 African start-ups that offer technological and innovative solutions that can accelerate Africa’s development.

The conference is organised by X-Afrique, an association created in December 2014 within the École Polytechnique with the aim of promoting African culture and generating interest in today’s African economic issues and the entrepreneurial opportunities offered by the continent.

Among the start-ups selected for the conference, some of them propose ecological solutions. One example is Baobab+, a French start-up that distributes solar kits to rural households in several African countries, including Madagascar, Senegal and Ivory Coast. The Nigerian start-up Kaltani, which provides a solution for recycling plastic bottles, will also be present at the X-Africa 2020 Forum; as well as African Food, which fights against food wastage in Ivory Coast through its application; or Neofarmertech, which enables farmers to save water used for irrigation by offering an application that measures the humidity rate, rainfall in the field, its temperature, etc.

The event is supported by Engie, the French energy giant with a strong presence in Africa, the “Renewable Energy” professorship of the EDF Foundation (Électricité de France), Royal Air Maroc and the French commercial bank Société Générale.
