In Morocco, Butec is diversifying and investing in water and wastewater management. The group founded by Lebanese engineer Nizar Younes is taking over the activities of Eaux de Marseille-Maroc (EMM), a subsidiary of the French Veolia group. With this takeover, the Butec group, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), takes a leap forward in the management of environmental services.
Through the acquisition of EMM, the Lebanese group aims to “increase its expertise in the management of essential services, and more specifically in everything relating to the optimization of water resources and the reduction of water stress”, explains Ziad Younès, Chairman of the Butec Group. In a context of water crisis, EMM manages public water and sanitation services.

Active in Morocco for some twenty years, the company manages water and wastewater facilities, as well as networks to prevent leaks, a vital activity in a context of water stress. The takeover of these activities will enable the Butec Group to strengthen its presence not only in Morocco, but also throughout Africa, where it is active in the construction (EPC) of infrastructure in various sectors.
In 2022, the group finalized the acquisition of all the “Energy Services” activities of French giant Engie in Africa. The 17 companies acquired specialize in multi-technical services related to energy efficiency, electromechanical installations and maintenance. They include Engie subsidiaries in Ivory Coast, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Niger. But also Ampair, Thermair and IES, present in South Africa, Bostwana, Mozambique and Zambia and in eSwatini.
