In South Africa, GreenCape, a green economy organization, is calling for applications from innovators and project developers for the GreenPitch Challenge 2022. The event, organized in partnership with financial companies Invest Cape Town and Business Hub, aims to promote sustainable and commercial innovation that can create jobs in Cape Town's green economy. Registration will close on the evening of March 31, 2022.

As part of its policy to develop Cape Town’s green economy, South Africa’s capital city, GreenCape in partnership with Invest Cape Town and Business Hub, is launching a call for projects in South Africa’s green economy as part of its GreenPitch Challenge 2022 competition.

 “Key to Cape Town’s post-Covid-19 inclusive economic growth strategy is to empower businesses and communities to innovate and act to grow the green economy and thereby create jobs, through its enormous potential to attract productive investment. Sustainability innovation is therefore a reflection of the next generation of economic development thinking,” said James Vos, member of the Economic Opportunities and Asset Management Committee of the Cape Town City Council.

Finalists selected by a panel of potential investors, business incubators and local officials will be mentored in preparation for participation in the event, which will take place on May 5, 2022 in Cape Town. The winner will win business development support worth 60,000 South African rand (approximately $4,000), provided by GreenCape. Also, business mentoring and skills training sessions, as well as financial facilitation through GreenCape networks and local authorities. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2022.

With the support of the Green Outcomes Fund (GOF), an investment fund launched in 2016, GreenCape supports projects led by companies specializing in the provision of renewable energy, water, waste management and land services.
