From July 25 to 27, 2019, the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi (Kenya’s capital) will host the 2019 edition of Solar Africa, an event for experts from the solar energy world to exchange and share their experiences. Solar Africa organisers see this event as one of the main catalysts for solar energy in Africa, which makes it possible to build simple energy solutions. The organisers are expecting a 30% increase in the participation rate compared to the last edition. In 2018, 14 countries participated, compared to 20 in 2019. Once again this year, nearly 3,200 participants are expected. This is justified by the increase in projects and products presented in the field of solar energy in Africa.
Solar Africa is jointly organised by the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, the East African Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture and the Town and Planers Association, a Kenyan association dedicated to environmental protection and conservation.
The Kenyan momentum for ENR
Kenya would like to invest $2.1 billion to ensure the electrification of areas not connected to the electricity grid. The government has chosen to focus on the development of mini power grids. In fact, it plans to install 450 of them by 2021. In addition, nearly 30,000 photovoltaic products are sold annually in Kenya and each household has at least one photovoltaic product.
