After Owendo Container in Gabon and Dakar Terminal in Senegal, the Abidjan Roll-on Roll-off Terminal (TERRA), a subsidiary of Bolloré Ports in Ivory Coast, becomes the 8th port concession of the French group to receive its Green Terminal label. “This is a source of pridé for Terra, which has been working for several years to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment and to achieve our eco-responsible approach,” says Joël Broux, the managing director of the company in charge of handling and managing ro-ro ships in the port of Abidjan. For the year 2021 alone, TERRA managed 39,854 vehicles and 22,617 containers.

According to Bureau Veritas, which audited TERRA’s environmental performance, this Green Terminal certification took into account eight criteria. These include the awareness and involvement of its employees in environmental issues, the implementation of actions to reduce plastic waste and the optimisation of the company’s energy consumption.

The Green Terminal label initiated in June 2021 by Bolloré Ports aims to encourage the consideration of sustainability in the container terminals it manages worldwide, following the example of Owendo Container Terminal, which is developing a subcontracting policy in Gabon. Also in this context, Ivory Coast Terminal, the subsidiary of Bolloré Ports, recently received 14 electric tractors in order to improve the productivity of the container terminal of the autonomous port of Abidjan. This acquisition will allow the decarbonisation of Bolloré’s port activities through the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from its machines as well as noise pollution.
