Zaguinasso will benefit from the vast drinking water supply programme of the government of Côte d’Ivoire. The locality, in the north of the country, hosted a ceremony to launch the project to strengthen the drinking water network, presided over by Bruno Nabagné Koné, minister of construction, housing and urban planning.
The works, which are now starting, will last 4 months. A period during which the improved village water system installed on site will be transformed into an urban water system. This initiative, says Minister Bruno Nabagné Koné, prepares Zaguinasso to become a city. To achieve this, the Ivorian government has planned the rehabilitation of the local water tower and its drilling, as well as the construction of a water sterilization station.
These developments will enable the construction of a 6 km long pipeline network, which will connect every household to the network. According to the Ivorian Minister of Construction, Housing and Urban Planning, once commissioned, the new facilities should make it possible “to eradicate water-borne diseases, reduce water fetching, which will enable women to produce better, improve their health and the schooling rate of young girls”. Thus, the project is expected to benefit some 6,200 local residents.
The implementation of this development project will require an investment of 135,761 million CFA francs, just over 200,000 euros.
