The United Kingdom is taking action on climate change. On January 5th, 2021, the British Embassy in Algiers launched a call for proposals for green organisations, agencies or companies in the country.

The call for projects is launched in the framework of the UK’s 2020/2021 Climate Fund. The aim is to encourage Algerians to develop initiatives to strengthen their resilience to climate change. The proposed projects should therefore support efforts to raise awareness of the effects of climate change and its social, economic and/or environmental impact. Bidders will also have to propose solutions for ecological recovery after Covid-19, particularly in areas such as energy transition and efficiency, green energy, waste management and biodiversity protection.

“The proposed activities must be one-off interventions (not a fully developed project) that will take place between February 1st, and March 15th, 2021, with no expectation of continued funding beyond the initial activity or period. The maximum budget limit for activities is 860,000 Algerian dinars (US$6,503),” says the UK government.

All climate projects are expected by January 16th, 2021 at the latest. To be eligible, applicants must have previous experience in project implementation and management. Successful applicants will be notified by January 21st, 2021 at the latest.
