The online event will last three days. The Climate Innovation Labs are aimed at young people, representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as climate technology experts from Africa and Asia-Pacific. The aim of the event is to explore innovative solutions, build capacity on entrepreneurship and create solutions for climate change resilience.
“By bringing together young innovators and climate technology experts with the private sector to design technological solutions, we hope that this programme will foster innovation for climate change adaptation. Participants will be challenged to think outside the box and co-create ideas for climate mitigation and adaptation solutions aligned with countries’ nationally determined contributions (NDCs),” explains Dr Rose Mwebaza, Director of the CTCN.
Capacity building for young entrepreneurs
The United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network (UNCCTN) is co-hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Supported by more than 600 network members worldwide, with 93 African country members, the UNCCT promotes the accelerated transfer of environmentally sound technologies for low-carbon and climate resilient development at the request of developing countries. It provides technology solutions, capacity building and advice on policy, legal and regulatory frameworks tailored to each country’s needs.
At the end of the Climate Innovation Labs, the winners from the African continent will receive support to implement and further develop the selected solutions through a 6-8-week training course provided by the Swiss company Seedstars.
