After the third Virtual Waste Exhibition (AVWE) held in Algiers in June 2022, the Algerian capital will host the International Waste Recovery and Recycling Exhibition (REVADE) from 10 to 13 October. The theme chosen for the sixth edition is “investment in the waste sector, an important added value to the national economy”.

The meeting, which will take place at the Palais des expositions pins maritimes, is jointly organised by the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACI) and the National Waste Agency (AND), in partnership with the Algerian Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion and the Ministry of the Environment and Renewable Energy. “The aim is to exchange international experiences in the field of sustainable waste management, in this case the Algerian potential”, explains Hocine Zaoui, the person in charge of business management at CACI.

The Revade exhibition will host 80 start-ups active in waste management, researchers as well as representatives of several governments, notably from Africa such as Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Participants will discuss innovations and financing of recycling at a time when several countries are facing saturation of their landfills.

Faced with this pollution-prone situation, Algeria, for example, has opted for the economic recovery and exploitation of waste. This policy generates 151 billion Algerian dinars (967.5 million euros) annually for household waste and 18.66 billion dinars (119.3 million euros) for used tyres, oils and batteries, according to the AND. It is in this context that the Algerian government recently announced the creation of several start-ups specialising in waste recovery by 2023, with the support of the Commissariat for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CEREFE).
