How to ensure energy and food security in Africa through digital advances? This question will be at the centre of discussions at the sixth edition of the Emerging Valley summit, which takes place from 28 to 29 November 2022 in Marseille, France.

The sixth edition of the Emerging Valley Summit takes place from 28 to 29 November 2022 at the Palais du Pharo in the French city of Marseille. This year’s event will focus on sustainable innovation and will mobilise more than 2,300 participants, including 150 start-ups and 50 investors from 70 countries.

In the face of global climate challenges, the event will focus on food security in relation to the practice of intelligent agriculture. The aim will be to discuss ways of resilience and adaptation using technology. This is an increasingly pressing issue on the continent as prolonged droughts affect people’s livelihoods, particularly in the Horn of Africa, including Kenya, Ethiopia and Somalia.

Emerging Valley participants in Marseilles will also focus on digital advances in the energy sector in the face of a supply disrupted on a global scale by the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which has exposed the African continent to shortages. This theme will be supported by the French Development Agency (AFD), partner of the event.

Cities will also have their part to play in the discussions, with the decarbonisation of large conurbations on the menu. All these topics will give rise to financing prospects. Moreover, the 2022 edition of the Emerging Valley Summit will welcome many economic actors from all regions of Africa, including the sixth class of impact entrepreneurs from the Social & Inclusive Business Camp, a program initiated by AFD. One of the highlights of this edition will also be the presentation of the winners of the Med Innovant Africa prize on sustainable development, organised by Euroméditerannée also based in Marseille.
