Young entrepreneurs from several countries on the African continent are invited to participate in the 2020 edition of the "Greenpreneurs" competition. The organisers intend to support the solutions provided by young people to the global challenges of sustainable development.

The application phase for the “Greenpreneurs 2020” will soon be closed. The competition, initiated by the organizations Student Energy, Youth Climate Lab and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), targets young entrepreneurs and sustainable development project holders. The competition is open to young people from African countries, members of GGGI. These countries are Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Morocco, Mozambique and Senegal. The young candidates, formed in teams, must submit their applications latest May 4, 2020.

“Greenpreneurs is a 12-week incubator and global green entrepreneurship competition open to young people between the ages of 17 and 35. Young people can submit their idea (solution) that has a positive impact on the future,” says Student Energy. The competition considers projects in the areas of renewable energy, water and sanitation, sustainable landscapes (forestry and agriculture) or sustainable cities. For Student Energy, these priority themes reflect the urgent problems hampering growth in developing countries in the context of green growth, climate change and sustainable development goals (SDOs).

Key features of the Greenpreneurs competition include a series of online learning modules and webinars, access to mentoring and assistance from subject matter experts, and a business plan competition through which winning teams can access small-scale seed funding to take their ideas from the planning stage to tangible impact.

The winning team will select one member who will travel to the headquarters of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Seoul, South Korea in October 2020 to receive the award. The prize consists of $5,000 and a small amount of seed funding to help the winning team develop their project. In Seoul, the representative will also attend the GGGI General Council meeting.
