A call for proposals has been launched to support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Africa. It is an initiative of the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa) and is called “Clean Energy for Green Growth”. Fifteen countries are involved in the EEF Africa call for proposals. They are Burundi, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Seychelles, South Africa, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Botswana and eSwatini (formerly Swaziland).

Companies and start-ups from the countries concerned will have to register via the EEP Africa webpage no later than the 10th of March 2020. Successful applicants will be able to obtain grants or repayable advances of between EUR 200 000 and EUR 500 000, with a minimum co-financing requirement of 30 % of the total project budget.

Types of projects required

Projects submitted by companies should be at an early stage of active development and implemented in one or more countries selected by the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa). Companies may use any type of renewable energy or promote energy efficiency technologies. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of conceptual innovation, development impact, business model and financial viability. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted in May and the final decision will be announced in September 2020.

Projects will be implemented for a maximum duration of 24 months, between 2021 and 2023. For more information on the call for projects, please click here.
