The African Hydrogen Partnership (AHP) is organising a conference on green hydrogen in Africa from February 19 to 20, 2020. This meeting will be attended by stakeholders in the sector, as well as representatives of several African governments.

What are the advances in the use of green hydrogen in Africa? This is one of the questions that will be on the agenda of a conference in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The event is organised by the African Hydrogen Partnership (AHP), a multi-stakeholder initiative consisting of hydrogen industry stakeholders, financial institutions and selected users of green hydrogen.

The AHP would today present a solution considered viable for electricity storage, a major challenge in the exploitation of renewable energy sources that depend on the availability of natural resources such as sunlight for a solar power plant or wind for a wind farm. Green hydrogen is in this case produced by electrolysis of water using surplus electricity production.

The AHP conference will be attended by stakeholders from the sector and representatives of the African Union. The governments of Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania and South Africa will send their representatives to this meeting, which will take place from the 19th to the 20th of February 2020. During this event, participants will discuss and vote on “critical issues to officially establish the AHP. The second part of the conference will be dedicated to the presentation of the first large-scale hydrogen, ammonia and fuel cell projects and activities underway on the African continent”.

The date of the first annual meeting of the AHP will be announced at the end of the Addis Ababa conference.
